Calculate Your Basal Metabolic Rate

Simply put, your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the rate at which you burn energy while you are totaly inactive. For example, if you chose to stay in bed for an ENTIRE day you would still use energy and that is what we are figuring out here. How much energy do you burn while you are inactive.

There are also those people that believe if you simply stop eating, you will lose weight. This is not only unhealthy, but it is also untrue. You may lose weight if you stop eating, but when you start again, you will put the weight back on faster than before.

Starvation Mode

When people go for extended periods of time without eating. Their bodies react to this by reducing their BMR so that less energy was expended simply to live day to day. When they do eat something, their bodies store as much of the nutrients to fat as it can. That way they can go much longer without eating. This is what we call Starvation Mode, and it is not good.

Aging also decreases the BMR, but this decrease can be greatly slowed with routine exercise.
