As people age the skin can begin to show the effects of that age and the results of far to much sun exposure. The way that your skin shows this is in wrinkling of the skin, and with age spots, otherwise known as sun spots.
Sun spots appear as small, or large discolorations of the skin and these spots are usually much darker than the surrounding skin and will be flat and brown in color.
Sun spots are harmless, and really just show a persons age more than anything. These spots will usually appear on the face, the back of the neck, and the back of the hands, and usually on people over the age of about forty.
The way that you can tell that these spots are caused by exposure to the sun, just look at the skin on your inner thigh you will notice that it is completely free from sun spots.
Sun spots are harmless for the most part, but if you notice that they are getting bigger than the surrounding spots this may be cause for concern, and should be addressed with a doctor.
Since most sun spots are harmless the need to correct them is mainly only for cosmetic purposes, but if you would like to take care of them there are a few ways to do this.
First is prevention. Limit your time in the sun on days with a high UV index, and if you must be in the sun for extended periods wear sunscreen.
The next is treatment. There are a couple of different treatments that can be implemented. Cosmetic treatments seem to work well for age spots.
This treatment involves regular applications of a cream to the age spots to lessen the dark appearance, and there are a host of creams and lotions that seem to work. This is probably the least expensive method for treating age spots.
The last treatment is the use of liquid nitrogen on the spots themselves.
Liquid nitrogen is extremely cold (about minus 321 degrees), and causes the age spot to lighten up and turn almost white within about a month of the application.
The only problem with this method is that the spot may become lighter in color than the surrounding skin, and may remain that way permanently.
Whatever method you use just remember that age spots in many cases are not a serious condition, they mainly just give away your age.
