Believe it or not, the foods that you eat really do affect not only your health, but your skin also.

Many people have this notion that just putting lotions and oils on their skin will help their skin look and feel younger, and it definitly can. But the single most important thing that you can do to help your skin stay healthy, is eating the right foods.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Essential fatty acids are one of the more important things that we need in our diets today, and sadly many people lack these important oils.

Omega 3, and Omega 6 fatty acids are the most commonly known, and most important to have in balance for healthy skin.

Most people seem to get enough Omega 6, but it is the Omega 3 that most people do not seem to get enough of.

Fish is an excellent source of  Omega 3 fatty acids, salmon being the best. To get the best benefits from salmon or any other kind of fish you will need to be sure that it is wild fish, not farm raised fish.

Farm raised fish are fed a diet high in antibiotics, and other hormones similar to what most beef is raised on, and you need to avoid this type of food.

When you find some wild salmon, eat it as often as possible, or at least three times a week, and you will be getting the Omega 3 fatty acids that you need to be getting.

Any canned salmon is wild salmon, and most that you find in the meat department will be wild, just specify that is what you want. Personally I just go fishing for salmon and I know it’s wild.

Vegetables For Skin Care

One other food that is essential for healthy skin, is the green leafy kind. Spinach is a very healthy super food. The nutrients in spinach are so very numerous, it would be hard to show them all. But for a few examples it has:

  • 1110% of the daily allowance of Vitamin K,
  • 294% of the daily allowance of vitamin A,
  • 84% of manganese,
  • and 65% of folate,

In a one cup serving of boiled spinach. These are only a few of the nutrients in spinach.

Broccoli is one more very nutritious vegetable, and should be eaten on a regular basis to help your skin look healthy and vibrant.

Broccoli sprouts are even healthier, and can be cooked in a variety of ways. The best way to eat all of these vegetables is raw, because cooking can remove some of the nutrients from them, but cooked is also very good for you.

The idea is to start eating a more nutritious diet, and this will in turn help your skin become more youthful in appearance, and your overall health will change also.
